Sven van Heesbiography


Sven van Hees started his career on local radio at the age of fifteen, playing jazz-funk and soul music. Due to the strong outlet of Belgium’s first Dance radioshow “Liaisons Dangereuses”, which was produced by Sven, he was offered a record deal on USA Import records. Together with Marcos Salon & Paul Ward he released “He Chilled Out” in 1989, which became a clubhit worldwide.

Sven’s first solo production was the track “I need you”, by Tech Noise. Afterwords he recorded numerous productions for different label such as ATOM, ELEKTRON, USA records and produced and arranged the first 6 releases on the legendary “Wonka” label. Got signed up to R&S in 1992 with his trance epic : “Emotional rehabilitation” (originally on Elektron records). The label introduced Sven at the Loveparade in 1993.

Together with Dutch Dj Remy, Van Hees kickstarted the Global cuts label for R&S, which Sven ran untill 1996. His final recording for Global Cuts, “Tabla Rasa”, got picked up by Compost in 1996 and was featured on “The future sound of Jazz vol 2″. That year also marks a shift in styles from his productions. Techno & Tribal , his trademark sound got replaced for Downtempo & Jazzy grooves.

It wasn’t until 1999 that the world would get to know how his music. With “GEMINI”, he produced on of the blueprints for the whole ‘Lounge revival’, tracks from the album appeared on over 200 compilations worldwide, the single “Tsunami” already now considered a classic. He followed up with”Calypso” in 2002, again sales & compilations went flying through the roof.

Sven left his label shortly after the release of the album and started focusing on performing Live, which he did for two years with “The Svengali Squad (Steinhardt, Peter Schneider, Paul Flush & Johan Vandendriessche), performing at numerous festivals in Benelux, the group really made their name at the Blue Note Festival, in Gent.

Through the years Sven remixed different artists and played giggs worldwide, spending most of his time in San Francisco where he hooked up with the infamous NAKE MUSIC label.

After starting up his own Music label YOUR LIPS, Sven recorded “Synesthesia” in 2005 which featured , besides musical contributions from “The Svengali Squad”, two tracks with vocals & lyrics by Dutch singer & Mc Lex Empress. The single “The sun goes down”, a summer anthem which got remixed afterwords by Hideo Kobayashi in 2006.

During the summer of 2007, Sven delivered on his promise to release, the second part in cosmic love-grooves, EXOTICA. Steinhardt features guitars on the single “Across the Delta”, all ten remaining grooves are Van Hees back in solo mode.
Besides his own productions, Sven released tracks on his label YOUR LIPS by BLU MAR TEN, PHLUFF & most recently the Belgian band DIBBY. Sven is doing a DJ tour in US and South Amercia and will be building a new studio in 2008 as he experiences a huge overturn for his recordlabel, a new project on which he is pretty “tight lipped” so far.
