Biography

Katya Gabeli had her first violin lesson at the age of 5. From then on, it seemed she just couldn't get enough: she kept on with the lessons for two more years and then entered a professional music school in her hometown of Moscow. A few years before graduating she felt like she'd finally had enough and that it was time for a little switch.

So, at the age of 16 Katya started as a radio dj. After she graduated from the school, she entered Moscow Conservatory and also joined the dj team at the new (and biggest) Russian dance radio station Dynamite. There she began developing her mixing skills. During that period Katya was dj-ing with live musicians and experimenting as a producer.

Finally, after 8 years of radio career, Katya moved to the Netherlands where she obtained her diploma in Music Production & Performing at the Utrecht School of the Arts. Freestyling on electric violin during dj-sets has soon become one of her main activities.

She played in NL and abroad, on events like ADE, Hed Kandi (Curacao), Ministry Of Sound, Extrema, Intents Festival, Beatloverz, with Erick E, Baggi Begovic and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano among others. Among the projects Katya has worked on as a violinist are the successful Dutch movie "De Hel van '63", Leon van der Zanden's show Vruchtvlees (music and audio editing),the award winning documentary "Against All Elements" for VPRO Television, scores for Dutch band De Kast etc.
