New mix album Mason - The Amsterdam Tapes
MASON ‘THE AMSTERDAM TAPES VOL.1’
RELEASE DATE 24TH NOVEMBER / LABEL: IO MUSIC www.lofly.net/ecards/2008/a_t/
Dutch DJ / producer Mason unleashes his new compilation ‘The Amsterdam Tapes’ at the end of November on IO Music. The album is a rocking mix of electronic house and dark disco-tech and features two exclusive new tracks produced by Mason. The project has also been turning heads for its futuristic approach to mixing. ‘The Amsterdam Tapes’ is the first compilation album to be mixed using only a revolutionary, Pacemaker hand held DJ system.
Mason is best known for his top 3 hit ‘Perfect Exceeder’ and recently his remixes of world renowned artist such as Robyn and Moby, but since his chart success has been quietly confirming his reputation as a cutting edge and experimental DJ and producer at the forefront of the Dutch electronic music scene. This reputation recently saw him invited to perform his first ‘Essential Mix’ behind the hallowed turntables at BBC Radio 1.
‘The Amsterdam Tapes’ is only set to cement his reputation as he delivers a creative, flowing mix, from the electro-rap of opening track ‘Damn’ by Jesus Jackson (Jacob London Mix), to the disco-tech of exclusive Mason production ‘Kippschwinger’, through to the industrial electronica of Paolo Mojo’s ‘Home’. This is a mix that keeps you guessing and won’t let you leave until you’ve heard what the next track is going to be. The big room prog of Phil Kieran’s ‘Again And Again’ slides seamlessly into Mason’s own remix of Noisia ‘Gutterpump’, sure to get the floors jumping. The mix diverts into another exclusive; the electro-tech of Mason’s eponymous ‘The Amsterdam Tape’ as it builds to an atmospheric trance-tinged finale from Robert Babicz with ‘Dark Flower’ (Joris Voorn Magnolia Mix).
The Amsterdam Tapes holds the attention until the final beat. The sound somehow matches the futuristic approach to mixing it. The new technology has inspired a fresh and inventive feel. As Mason said when discussing Pacemaker,
“I love the idea that everything you need is right there, allowing you to immediately tap into and capture your ideas, wherever you are.”
Mason plans to take his approach one step further by using his Pacemaker in the clubs during his forthcoming DJ Tour in support of the mix album. During his set he plans to mix a number of tracks using his Pacemaker, allowing him to move out from behind the decks and amongst the crowd. The Amsterdam Tapes is a mix album reflecting the genuine, forward thinking love of all things electronic that makes Mason one of the brightest lights in the current dance music firmament.
